# Cartrawler

CarTrawler car rental API for PHPTRAVELS: add your CarTrawler client ID and API key in the cars module, test pick-up searches and bookings, then go live.

### What CarTrawler is

CarTrawler is a car rental and mobility distribution platform that gives travel companies access to rental cars from many suppliers through one API. In PHPTRAVELS it is a live supplier inside the **Cars** module: CarTrawler vehicles appear in your car search with your markup, alongside any cars you load yourself, and bookings can be cancelled from the admin.

### What you need

* A partner agreement with CarTrawler and API access for your business. CarTrawler approves partners and sets commission terms.
* The API credentials CarTrawler issues to you, typically a client ID and an API key, for testing first and production later. Confirm the values with your CarTrawler account manager.
* Admin access to your installed and licensed PHPTRAVELS website.

### Enter the credentials

1. Log in to the admin panel at `yourdomain.com/admin`.
2. Open **Settings > Modules** and select **Cartrawler** in the cars list.
3. On **General**, enable the module and keep **Dev mode** on development.
4. On **Credentials**, enter the client ID and API key in the labelled fields. Click **Test** if it appears, then save.
5. On **Markup**, set your B2C and B2B margins.

### How to test

1. Search an airport pick-up, for example a major hub, for a three-day rental a few weeks ahead.
2. Compare car classes, included mileage, fuel policy and the pick-up instructions.
3. Book a car in the test environment and check the confirmation number and voucher in the admin and in the customer email.
4. Cancel the booking from the admin and confirm the status changes.
5. Switch to production credentials and **Dev mode** production when everything matches.

### Common errors

* **Authentication failed** -- the client ID and API key are swapped or belong to the other environment.
* **No cars for a location** -- try an airport code or a larger city; some locations have no supply on those dates.
* **Price changed at booking** -- the supplier updated the rate; search again.
* **Cancellation refused** -- the rental's terms may not allow free cancellation; check the conditions on the booking.
