# Email Settings

PHPTRAVELS email settings: send booking confirmations, vouchers and password resets through SMTP or the SMTP2Go API, then send a test email to confirm.

### Why email settings matter

PHPTRAVELS sends booking confirmations, vouchers, invoices, payment receipts, password resets and admin alerts by email. If the sender service is not set up, bookings still save but customers and staff never hear about them. Set this up right after installing and licensing the product, before you take real bookings.

### Two ways to send email

* [SMTP Settings](https://docs.phptravels.com/startup/setup/email-settings/smtp-settings) -- use the SMTP server of your email provider or host. You need the SMTP host, port, username, password and encryption type (SSL or TLS) from that provider.
* [SMTP2Go API](https://docs.phptravels.com/startup/setup/email-settings/smtp2go-api) -- use an SMTP2Go account. You verify your sending domain in SMTP2Go, create an API key and paste it into PHPTRAVELS.

If you are not sure which to pick, a dedicated sending service such as SMTP2Go usually gives better delivery than a shared hosting mailbox.

### Where to set it up

1. Log in to your admin panel at `yourdomain.com/admin`.
2. Open **Settings** and click **Email Settings**.
3. Choose the sending method (SMTP or SMTP2GO) and fill in the fields from the matching guide.
4. Set the sender name and a sender email address on your own verified domain.
5. Save, then send a test email to an inbox you can check.

### How to test

* Send the test email from the Email Settings page and confirm it arrives, including in the spam folder.
* Make a test booking on your website and check the confirmation email and voucher.
* Request a password reset for a test customer account.

### Common errors

* **Test email never arrives** -- check the error logs shown on the Email Settings page, fix the reported problem and send the test again.
* **Authentication failed** -- wrong username, password or API key; copy the values again from your provider.
* **Connection timed out** -- the port or encryption type is wrong, or your host blocks outgoing SMTP ports. Ask the host or switch to the SMTP2Go API.
* **Emails go to spam** -- send from an address on your own domain and complete the domain verification your provider asks for (SPF and DKIM records).
