Integrate TripAdvisor hotel reviews directly into your PHPTRAVELS hotel and stays pages. This guide explains how to connect your TripAdvisor developer account with PHPTRAVELS, configure the API key, connect each hotel with its TripAdvisor listing, and display TripAdvisor reviews on your website. > Currently, this integration is available for the **Hotels / Stays module**. Support for additional modules may be added in future updates. ## Video Tutorial Watch the complete implementation guide: ## Overview The TripAdvisor integration allows PHPTRAVELS users to display TripAdvisor review information directly on hotel detail pages. The basic workflow is: 1. Create or access your TripAdvisor developer account. 2. Subscribe to the required TripAdvisor API plan. 3. Generate your TripAdvisor API key. 4. Add the API key inside PHPTRAVELS. 5. Test the API connection. 6. Open a hotel or stay inside PHPTRAVELS. 7. Find or manually enter the TripAdvisor hotel ID. 8. Save the hotel. 9. TripAdvisor reviews will appear on the hotel page. ## Requirements Before starting, make sure you have: * A working PHPTRAVELS installation * Access to the PHPTRAVELS admin panel * The Hotels / Stays module enabled * A TripAdvisor developer account * An active TripAdvisor API subscription * A valid TripAdvisor API key ## Step 1: Create a TripAdvisor Developer Account Visit the TripAdvisor developer portal: Sign in with your TripAdvisor account or create a new account if required. Once logged in, you will be able to access the available API products and subscription plans. ## Step 2: Subscribe to the TripAdvisor API From the TripAdvisor developer dashboard, subscribe to the API package required for accessing hotel information and reviews. During our implementation, we used the **Discover** plan. TripAdvisor may provide a limited number of API requests free of charge before additional usage becomes billable. > TripAdvisor pricing, API limits, quotas, and package names may change. Always check the latest information inside the TripAdvisor developer portal. Complete the subscription process before continuing. ## Step 3: Generate Your TripAdvisor API Key After subscribing to the required API product: 1. Open your TripAdvisor developer dashboard. 2. Go to the API overview or credentials section. 3. Generate an API key if one has not already been created. 4. Copy the API key. Keep this key secure. Do not expose your API key publicly or share it with unauthorized users. ## Step 4: Open the PHPTRAVELS Modules Settings Log in to your PHPTRAVELS admin panel. Navigate to: **Settings → Modules** Then: 1. Open **Others** 2. Locate **TripAdvisor** 3. Click **Settings** The TripAdvisor configuration screen will open. ## Step 5: Add the TripAdvisor API Key Paste the TripAdvisor API key that you copied from the TripAdvisor developer portal into the API key field. After entering the key, click **Test**. PHPTRAVELS will attempt to connect to the TripAdvisor API. If the test is successful, the integration status should indicate that the API connection is working correctly. If the test fails, verify the following: * The API key is correct * Your TripAdvisor subscription is active * The API key has the required permissions * Your API quota has not been exceeded * Your server can make outbound API requests Do not continue until the API test is successful. ## Step 6: Open the Hotel or Stay After the TripAdvisor API has been successfully configured, go to your hotel inventory. Navigate to: **Stays** Find the hotel you want to connect with TripAdvisor and click **Edit**. Because the TripAdvisor integration is now enabled, you should see a **Reviews** section or tab inside the hotel editing page. Open the **Reviews** tab. ## Step 7: Search for the Hotel on TripAdvisor PHPTRAVELS provides a hotel search option inside the Reviews section. Enter the name of your hotel. PHPTRAVELS will search TripAdvisor using the configured API. When the correct hotel appears in the search results, select it. PHPTRAVELS will automatically retrieve and assign the corresponding TripAdvisor hotel ID. Make sure the selected hotel is the correct property. Hotels may have similar names in different cities or countries, so always verify the property before saving. ## Alternative Method: Find the TripAdvisor Hotel ID Manually If you already know the TripAdvisor listing or cannot find the property through the PHPTRAVELS search interface, you can manually obtain the TripAdvisor ID. Go to: Search for the hotel and open its TripAdvisor listing. The TripAdvisor URL usually contains a hotel identifier. Example: `Hotel_Review-gXXXXXX-d1234567-Reviews-Hotel_Name.html` In this example, the TripAdvisor hotel ID is: `1234567` Copy the required ID from the TripAdvisor URL. Return to PHPTRAVELS and paste the ID into the TripAdvisor ID field inside the hotel's Reviews section. Save your changes. ## Step 8: Verify the Reviews on the Hotel Page After assigning the TripAdvisor hotel ID, open the hotel page on your PHPTRAVELS frontend. The TripAdvisor review information should now appear on the hotel details page. Depending on the TripAdvisor API response, customers may see: * Overall hotel rating * Review rating indicators * Guest review information * TripAdvisor review interface * Links related to TripAdvisor reviews The review information is retrieved from TripAdvisor. ## TripAdvisor Review Widget Design The review interface and certain visual elements are provided by TripAdvisor. Because these elements originate from TripAdvisor, their structure or design may not be fully customizable inside PHPTRAVELS. This helps keep TripAdvisor review content consistent with TripAdvisor's requirements. ## Customer Review Submission If the TripAdvisor integration provides a review submission option, customers clicking the review action may be redirected to TripAdvisor. The actual review is submitted through TripAdvisor rather than directly into the PHPTRAVELS database. PHPTRAVELS displays the TripAdvisor review integration but does not control TripAdvisor's external review submission process. ## Current Module Support Currently, the TripAdvisor review integration is available for: * Hotels * Stays Additional PHPTRAVELS modules may receive similar functionality in future releases. Possible future modules may include: * Tours * Activities * Other travel inventory modules Availability depends on future PHPTRAVELS updates and supported TripAdvisor APIs. ## Troubleshooting ### TripAdvisor Reviews Tab Is Not Showing Check the following: * TripAdvisor is enabled in Modules * The API key has been added * The API test is successful * Your PHPTRAVELS version includes the TripAdvisor integration * The Hotels / Stays module is enabled ### API Test Is Failing Possible causes include: * Incorrect API key * Inactive TripAdvisor subscription * Invalid API permissions * API quota exceeded * TripAdvisor service temporarily unavailable * Server firewall blocking outbound requests * Network or DNS issues on the server Verify your API credentials directly from the TripAdvisor developer dashboard. ### Hotel Search Returns No Results Try the following: * Search using the exact hotel name * Remove unnecessary words from the hotel name * Search using a shorter property name * Verify the hotel exists on TripAdvisor * Use the manual TripAdvisor ID method ### Wrong Hotel Appears Hotels may have similar names. Always verify: * Hotel name * City * Country * Property photographs * TripAdvisor listing Do not connect a hotel to a TripAdvisor ID belonging to another property. ### Reviews Are Not Appearing Check the following: 1. TripAdvisor API test is successful. 2. The correct TripAdvisor ID has been saved. 3. The hotel has a valid TripAdvisor listing. 4. TripAdvisor has review data available for that property. 5. Your API quota has not been exceeded. 6. The TripAdvisor API service is operational. 7. Clear application or website cache if required. ## API Usage and Limits TripAdvisor applies API usage limits according to the subscription package associated with your developer account. During our implementation, the selected package included a free API request allowance before additional usage became chargeable. API limits and pricing are controlled by TripAdvisor and can change. PHPTRAVELS does not control: * TripAdvisor API pricing * API quotas * Billing * Package availability * API approval * API limits * TripAdvisor account restrictions Always review your usage inside the TripAdvisor developer dashboard. ## Important Notes The TripAdvisor integration requires your own TripAdvisor developer account. PHPTRAVELS does not provide TripAdvisor API credentials. You are responsible for: * Creating the TripAdvisor developer account * Subscribing to the required API * Paying any TripAdvisor API charges * Managing your API quota * Maintaining your API credentials PHPTRAVELS provides the software integration that connects your website with the TripAdvisor API. ## Security Recommendation Treat your TripAdvisor API key as a private credential. Never publish it in: * Public Git repositories * Screenshots * Blog posts * Support forums * Public JavaScript * Client-side HTML * Public documentation If an API key is accidentally exposed, regenerate it from your TripAdvisor developer account. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### Does PHPTRAVELS provide a TripAdvisor API account? No. You must create your own TripAdvisor developer account and obtain your own API credentials. ### Does PHPTRAVELS provide the TripAdvisor API key? No. The API key is generated through your TripAdvisor developer account. ### Can TripAdvisor reviews be displayed on PHPTRAVELS hotel pages? Yes. Once the API is configured and the correct TripAdvisor hotel ID is connected, supported TripAdvisor review information can be displayed on the hotel page. ### Can I manually enter the TripAdvisor hotel ID? Yes. You can either search for the hotel through the PHPTRAVELS interface or manually retrieve the TripAdvisor property ID from the hotel's TripAdvisor listing. ### Can I modify TripAdvisor reviews? No. TripAdvisor review data is provided by TripAdvisor. PHPTRAVELS does not modify or rewrite TripAdvisor reviews. ### Can customers submit reviews directly from PHPTRAVELS? The TripAdvisor integration may provide a review action, but the customer is redirected to TripAdvisor to complete the review process. ### Does this integration currently support tours? Currently, the implementation demonstrated in this guide is for the Hotels / Stays module. Support for additional modules may be introduced in future versions. ### Is the TripAdvisor API free? TripAdvisor may provide limited free API usage depending on the selected package. Usage beyond the included quota may be chargeable.
